"Sharing God's love" is part of the mission of Bellville United Methodist Church, and this is reflected by a strong emphasis upon missions and outreach! We show love to others, because God has loved us! Each year there are many special expressions of missions at BUMC:
SUMMER YOUTH MISSION CAMPS. Every summer the youth of BUMC have the opportunity to participate in out-of-town mission trips, where young men and women express their love for the Lord in hands-on mission opportunities. UM-Army is a weeklong mission trip for senior high youth, and Big House is a weekend mission experience for junior high youth.
FREE CLOTHING GIVEAWAY. Each August, BUMC hosts a free clothing giveaway for the community. Families and individuals have the opportunity to find gently used clothing that might suit their needs. Donations are accepted, but only shortly before the event, as we do not have facilities for yearround storage of clothing.
BLUEBONNET LUNCHEON. Each spring generous members of BUMC make possible a wonderful bus outing to see the wildflowers for shut-ins and residents of senior adult facilities. After the bus outing, they are treated to a luncheon and program.
SUNDAY BURGER TEAM. Knowing that local "Meals on Wheels" efforts do not include weekends, BUMC has adopted a number of area residents to receive a "cooked to order" hamburger and the fixings. Members of BUMC take turns making these deliveries each Sunday after worship.
SOCIETY OF ST. STEPHEN. This group is able, from time to time, to give emergency assistance to individuals and families with special financial needs. The Society also coordinates and assists with the other outreach projects of BUMC.
MISSION TRIPS. In recent years, BUMC has coordinated mission work teams in southeast Texas (after hurricane Rita) and to the Four Corners Native American ministry in New Mexico. Mission trip opportunities, both domestic and international, are always available through United Methodist Partners In Mission (www.partnersinmission.org).
BELLVILLE ACTS OF RANDOM KINDNESS (B.A.R.K.). Twice a year the church gathers together for a day of various mission projects. BUMC wants the residents of Bellville to know that they are loved. Some of the projects include: construction, sprucing/clean-up, food, and visitation.
MISSION TAXI. BUMC offers a free ride to those in need when it comes to doctor appointments and scheduled services at the local hospital. Scheduling is done through the church office.
